How Can a Chiropractor Help with Pulled Muscles

How Can a Chiropractor Help with Pulled Muscles?

Whether we lifted too many boxes when we moved house or we worked out a little too hard, almost everyone has pulled a muscle. A pulled muscle is torn or stretched due to not preparing the muscle by stretching it, overusing it, or fatigue.

Most pulled muscles go away with no more treatment than ice and ibuprofen. If the pulled muscle is in the arms or legs, then recovery is easily accomplished. If the pulled muscle is in the back or neck, then the spine is involved which requires a chiropractor at Chiropractic Care Center in South Tampa.

What Tearing Or “Pulling” Does To A Muscle

A muscle's optimal healthy position is long and stretched. It's at peak performance then. When a muscle is short, it means the bones of the joints around it move together. If torn muscles knock spinal bones out of true, then nerves are involved. Ligaments and tendons tighten up as well which causes pain.

When a muscle is short it begins to spasm. This contraction and release hurt in itself, but it also knocks the bones in the spine out of true. This tightens the ligaments and tendons which also cause pain. If people self-treat and the pain goes away without the root of the problem being fixed, then arthritis could set in later on.

How Chiropractic Helps Pulled Muscles

A chiropractor will adjust the spine which starts a chain reaction. As the bones of the joints in the spine return to true, the ligaments and tendons connecting them to muscle and bone relax. Some of the pain goes away. The muscles to which all of these connect relax, allowing more pain to go away.

Next, the doctor will give you exercises to do at home to strengthen the muscles. When the muscles are strong, they're long and stretched or at peak performance. The spine is in perfect alignment, and there's no more pain.
